Do you have a hard time coming up with regular topics for your nonprofit blog? If so, you certainly aren't alone; even for those of us who work in the media and public relations industry, it can be hard to consistently come up with great material week in and week out. That doesn't mean that it's impossible, though. All you have to do is remember to think like a professional. Whenever we find ourselves looking for something interesting to add to the blog, we turn to a number of standby, evergreen topics that work for a nonprofit every time.
Here are four of them that you can write and use quickly, and that will help you gain readers, attention, and donations for your charitable organization:
Any success story. How are things going with your cause? Sharing a victory, success, or milestone with readers doesn't just add a few words to your nonprofit blog – it also reminds people of the best reasons to share their time and money in the first place.
A personal story. The same principle is at work here, except that instead of statistics and overall trends, highlighting the way your organization has made a difference in one person's life can be more powerful than sharing facts and figures about a million. Personal stories, on your blog or elsewhere, help donors feel a connection to the people that your organization impacts.
A staff member profile. In the same way, it's easy for a nonprofit to start to seem like a big organization, rather than a small group of committed difference-makers. That's not always a bad thing, since people tend to trust big organizations to handle big problems, but reminding the public that you are made up of individuals who care about the cause you support is never a bad idea.
A collection of photos. We've all heard that a picture can be worth a thousand words, but on your nonprofit blog, a set of stunning or insightful photos with a little bit of explanation can tell interested parties everything they want to know. A bright smile, a look of relief, or an example of loss and devastation can all help your message hit home more effectively.
These are just a few nonprofit blog topics, of course, but they should be helpful when you find yourself ready for posting but out of ideas.
