A common "huh?" moment that we come across when working with clients unfamiliar with the rules of website design is that you can't have any font you want on a website. Why? Because the website code for fonts depends on the fonts that are available on the computer being used. For instance, we have several specialty fonts on our computer systems and we could reference it in the code as the font to use and see if just fine on the web from our systems. However, when someone else pulls up the same website using a different computer that doesn't have that font, the computer will replace the font with a default font, which is often something like Times New Roman or Arial.
As a result, there are a set of fonts that are considered web or browser safe fonts that are available by default on Windows and Mac computers. Here are the fonts that you are free to use for your content knowing that it will appear consistently for your visitors. We often reference this website when people want to see the fonts on in action.
